Udaipur to the Holiday Inn!

Our last morning here at Amet Haveli, as Alison woke up at 5:00, so Peter was asked to make tea at 5:30! After our morning cuppa, Alison finished off the packing, as we heard the first firework of the day go off at 6:40. We need to be out of the room by 10:00, so as usual we are well ahead of time.

It’s another hazy morning, with the forecast suggesting a 30% chance of rain, the pigeons are cooing and the water on the lake is still, apart from the fish jumping.

Packing complete, showered, dressed, second cup of tea at 7:30! People swimming in the lake… not recommended for foreigners! A bird of prey is sitting on the roof and for some reason the pigeons have disappeared. No chance of using the pool here because of the forecast rain, but we are hoping that it might be fine in Delhi, provided the plane is on time.

Our bird of prey

Down for breakfast at 8:00 and everyone was commenting on the chaos last night because of the unexpected rain shower. We survived the odd shower at breakfast, as fortunately we were under a tree. Our bird of prey seems to have decided to investigate our tree, not surprising as the squirrels are nesting there. We wonder how many are left😢

Papaya and banana the only fruit to accompany our bowl of curds and mango smoothie. Alison decided to try the scrambled egg, while Pete stuck to masala omelette, accompanied by tiny chicken sausages and puri. 2 pots of Earl Grey and then back to our room for the final time to zip up the suitcases, but Peter noticed two pairs of shoes on the floor, so we had to open one up and fit them in. On the way back from breakfast we had noticed a hidden garden at the side of the lake, where the suites were located. There was an interesting selection of plants and lovely places to sit watching the lake, but it all looked a bit dilapidated.

Amet Haveli dressed for Diwali

We completed our checkout, having to pay our laundry bill in cash and our hotel bill by card in GBP, because the card machine that accepted rupees wasn’t working; fortunately, the exchange rate was correct and not exorbitant as can sometimes happen with local currency conversions.

After we left our room, we settled down by the pool to write the blog and do some reading, only for the rain to start! So we have now decamped to a table and chairs under cover outside another guest room.

Next installment … Delhi…
