Nostagic lunch with Gill and Graham

After our late night, we crawled out of bed just before 8 for our morning cuppa , shower and off to breakfast just before 9:00.

As usual there was a splendid display of fruit and low fat yogurt which was washed down with many cups of tea (EG for A and EB for P) and some fresh bread and preserves. Quite enough after last night’s dinner and today’s lunch in prospect.

Unfortunately BA had closed their checkin desk at the hotel, so we had to take our luggage across to the checkin area, having saved our boarding passes on our phones. A short wait and we had dropped our two large suitcases off, leaving us with just a backpack, handbag and camera case to take on the plane. Back to our room and a quick conversation with Gill and Graham to clarify our pickup point and we checked out and spent a few minutes in the lounge area, noting that our wifi has been disconnected within minutes of checking out!

Gill and Graham met us at the hotel entrance and Graham drove us back to their house for a few minutes chat before we set off for the Barley Mow at Englefield Green.

This is a modernized old building with a light and airy extension at the back and with a modern look and just across from the green, where we are told they still play cricket in the summer and where the last duel in England was fought (between two Frenchmen).

We started our meal with a celebratory bottle of Greyfriars British champagne, excellently recommended to us by Clive our waiter.

A.very enjoyable meal was rounded off by appetizing desserts and coffee. We spent so long there that it was straight back to terminal 5 to avoid the traffic queues and a fond Au revoir to G&G with an invitation to visit Guernsey next year.

Graham drove us back to T5 in plenty of time for us to pass through security ( it was Pete’s turn to endure the body scanner) and to find the BA lounge and two comfy chairs so that we could write up our blog posts.

Pete caught up with some office work for the Island Games, and we received our first booking for next year as Bet and Graham confirmed they would be with us for New Year. Kerry threatened to book up possibly for the spring .

So now we are waiting for our departure gate to be shown before boarding our flight.
