Back home from Basel

Easter Sunday 21 April 2019

We woke up early as usual cuppa, shower and dressed and packed up all the remaining bits and pieces.

Alison managed to get all of the contents of one backpack in a case, but it was a little heavier.

We discovered that the battery in the bathroom scales was flat so we were unable to weigh the cases, but more importantly were unable to weigh ourselves, so remain blissfully ignorant as to how many kg we have put on over the past 10 days!

However, the hotel concierge weighed the cases for us and indeed found that one case was heavier, but that they were both less than 23 kg.

Another excellent breakfast at the Swissotel, with staff who remembered us from yesterday and without asking brought up some eggs Royale to the table and also provided low fat yogurt on the buffet table.

We chatted to some of our fellow cruise passengers who were leaving later in the day and also to some others who were waiting to join the ship.

Our taxi arrived early and got us to the airport just before the bag drop opened.  We had checked in online from our phones and wanted to establish if our boarding cards could still be displayed on our phones if there was no wifi.

We discovered that our boarding passes were alive on our phones, but the very helpful checkin lady gave us some printed ones just in case.

After some browsing in the shops we found the sky-lounge, which is shared by all airlines and really is the most  luxurious we have seen and of course deserted as it is Easter Sunday.

Basel Mulhouse Frieberg Europort is as the name suggests a collaborative project between the three countries and really an excellent and not too big construction.

Must stop blogging now because we will shortly be called for our flight!

We had a smooth flight over to Heathrow, with a tasty meal and a final celebratory glass of bubbly ( no extra bottles this time).

For some strange reason we had to board a bus to arrivals, but still arrived way in advance of our luggage.  Nevertheless, we were able to get an earlier coach from Heathrow to Gatwick, but unfortunately unable to bring our flight forward.

Alison moved some content between the cases, so that ideally they will be of a similar weight for our next flight.

The weather in the UK seems to be as good as that in Switzerland and its warm and sunny at the Hilton lounge, where we have parked with a pot of tea, waiting to be able to drop our bags off with Aurigny.

Overall, we have had a great time away especially since Chris and Ruth were able to join us.
